Tree Surveyor


Hayden’s Arboricultural Consultant's, based in Bury St Edmunds, are looking to recruit a Tree Surveyor to become a key member of our growing team. We are looking for a conscientious, diligent, self-motivated, articulate and well-presented candidate to undertake detailed, accurate, thorough and consistent tree inspections supporting our team of dedicated arboricultural consultants. Our extensive experience within the arboricultural industry allows us to anticipate local planning authorities’ tree and environment requirements; identify and supply the level of tree information required for submission and negotiate with all interested parties in order to achieve appropriate solutions for all projects.

You will be part of a dedicated and experienced team aiming to keep at the forefront of the arboricultural industry through an on-going review and development program, taking on board the opinions of all those involved with and affected by trees. Each member of our team, be they a consultant, tree surveyor, CAD specialist or member of our administration, is dedicated to providing our clients with a bespoke personal service befitting their particular project, whether that is work for a small private client or a much larger corporation.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will be responsible for visiting site, meeting clients as required and recording and evaluating tree and location data. In addition to identifying species and logging dimensions, this will also include commenting on such matters as general condition, form and function, pests and diseases. The successful candidate must be fully conversant with the stipulations of BS 5837:2012 and be confident to provide justifiable recommendations for tree work. There will also be a requirement to draft simple reports and undertake regular liaison with clients as necessary. Typical projects will include:

· BS5837 Surveys,

· Health and Safety Surveys,

· Subsidence Assessments,

· Detailed tree inspections with Picus and Resistograph,

· Site monitoring and management.

Minimum requirements

Applicants should possess a sound level of arboricultural knowledge through a combination of academic qualification and practical experience in the arboricultural industry. Previous experience of tree condition surveying, report writing, preparation of BS5837 tree surveys and familiarity with development surveys would be helpful. You should have an understanding of tree legislation in relation to Tree Preservation Orders and Conservation Areas. IT skills should include Microsoft Office and understanding of AutoCAD although this is not essential.

Full Driving License is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Qualifications should include a minimum Level 3 in Arboriculture or Forestry. Ideally should also have one of the following:

· LANTRA Professional Tree Inspector Certificate (desirable)

· Professional member of the Arboriculture Association, International Society of Arboriculture or the Institute of Chartered Foresters or actively working towards these accreditations.

Salary and Benefits

National mininmum wage to £24,000 (dependent on experience)
