Trainee Arboricultual Consultant Position

Hayden’s Arboricultural Consultant's, based in Bury St Edmunds, are looking to recruit a Trainee Arboricultural Consultant to become a key member of our growing team. We are looking for a conscientious, diligent, self motivated and well-presented candidate with a willingness to take opportunities to learn as part of the teams’ continual professional development (CPD) with the central aim of providing a consistent high level of arboricultural advice to our clients.

Our extensive experience within the arboricultural industry allows us to anticipate local planning authorities’ tree and environment requirements; identify and supply the level of tree information required for submission and negotiate with all interested parties in order to achieve appropriate solutions for all projects. 

You will be part of a dedicated and experienced team aiming to keep at the forefront of the arboricultural industry through an on-going review and development program, taking on board the opinions of all those involved with and affected by trees. Each member of our team, be they a consultant, CAD specialist or member of our administration, is dedicated to providing our clients with a bespoke personal service befitting their particular project, be that work for a small private client or much larger corporation. 

Job Summary 

The successful candidate will be trained to be responsible for day to day project management including tree data collection, data analysis, report writing and regular liaison with clients. Projects will include: 

  • BS5837 Surveys, 
  • Health and Safety Surveys, 
  • Subsidence Assessments, 
  • Detailed tree inspections with Picus and Resistograph, 
  • Site monitoring and management as well as a wide range of arboricultural projects throughout the UK. 

Minimum requirements 

Applicants should possess a sound level of arboricultural knowledge though a combination of academic qualification and practical experience in the arboricultural industry. Previous experience of tree condition surveying, report writing, preparation of BS5837 tree surveys and familiarity with development surveys would be helpful. You should have an understanding of tree legislation in relation to Tree Preservation Orders and Conservation Areas. IT skills should include Microsoft Office and understanding of AutoCAD although this is not essential.  

Full Driving License is required. 

Preferred Qualifications 

Qualifications should include a minimum Level 4 (Arboricultural Qualification ABC level 4 award, certificate and diploma in arboriculture) and evidence of recent CPD within the arboricultural industry.  

  • FdSc Arb, BSc or PDArb in Arboriculture or equivalent professional qualification 
  • LANTRA Professional Tree Inspector Certificate (desirable)
  • Professional member of the Arboriculture Association, International Society of Arboriculture or the Institute of Chartered Foresters or actively working towards these accreditations. 

Salary and Benefits 

£ 18,000 - £26,000 (dependant on experience)
